Learn more about what Cyber Monday is in this article.

Cyber Monday is the first Monday that comes after the US Thanksgiving holiday and Black Friday. Cyber Monday focuses on online shopping and most online retailers offer special promotions and discounts on this day, encouraging consumers to shop online. Often, Cyber Monday offers last until midnight, but they may last for a few days. Most retailers will continue to offer Black Friday deals until the end of Cyber Monday. Whilst traditional retailers offer website-only deals on this day, some retailers have merged Black Friday and Cyber Monday into a combination of both in-store and online shopping deals and discounts, obscuring the difference between the two days.

Cyber Monday has become the online equivalent of Black Friday and has been reported to be the busiest online shopping day of the year and the biggest day for online sales. The ecommerce term "Cyber Monday" was first invented by Shop.org in 2005. Even though Cyber Monday originated in the United States, it takes place in other countries as well.

According to the Shop.org/Bizrate Research 2005 eHoliday Mood Study, "77% of online retailers said that their sales increased greatly on the Monday after Thanksgiving, a trend that is driving serious online discounts and promotions on Cyber Monday this year (2005)".

Convenience

Cyber Monday provides consumers with a convenient method of shopping for great deals as a lot of people do not want to wait in the long queues that happen in shops on Black Friday. This is the reason why most consumers enjoy Cyber Monday. It is important to note that demand for products on Black Friday, such as TVs, DVDs, video games, game consoles, latest style clothes, and jewellery, will go up a lot due to the promotions and discounts, especially since it is not that far away from Christmas, so the items may sell out by Cyber Monday. Therefore, if you urgently need to buy an item and a retailer is offering a discount or a promotion that starts on Black Friday, it is recommended to get it earlier on Black Friday than waiting until Cyber Monday. Shopping on Cyber Monday does not always mean that you will be getting a better deal.
