Learn more about what FTTC is in this article.

Short for fibre to the cabinet, FTTC is a broadband technology that involves running fibre optic cables from the distribution point or telephone exchange to the street cabinets and then copper cables to a home or office. It has a slower speed than FTTP, since FTTC does not use fibre all the way. It has to rely on a slow copper cable to reach the home or office. In addition, the cables have to travel further to reach their destination.

FTTP directly connects a fibre optic cable to a home or office, but it is much more expensive and is only recommended for homes and offices that need a very high data transfer rate. FTTC offers speeds of up to 80 Mb/s and is available to 96% of homes, which is what most households use.
