Learn about what IANA is in this article.

IANA is short for Internet Assigned Numbers Authority and it is an organisation that is responsible for the assignment of internet numbers, as suggested in the name. Internet numbers are numerical identifiers that are used in the networking protocols of the Internet Protocol Suite and are assigned to internet resources. This organisation is responsible for the allocation of unique IP addresses to ISPs, unique protocol values, DNS (Domain Name System), email protocols, such as SMTP, and other common Ethernet network protocols. IANA is owned by ICANN (Internet Corporation For Assigned Names and Numbers) and includes a global registry of IPv4 and IPv6 addresses as well as Autonomous System Numbers. In the list, all IP address ranges and ASN blocks are included. The official website for IANA can be seen here.
