Here are 17 hidden features of Google search you probably never knew about.
Google has quite a few hidden features that most people don't know about. Over the years, Google has hidden some unexpected surprises when entering certain search terms. It's not possible to share every hidden feature, but here are 17 of the best ones.
If you search do a barrel roll, your search results will perform a full 360-degree roll. It makes the open window barrow roll, meaning that it turns the results upside down before it brings them back up again.
When searching for askew, the search results page will be slanted to one side, as if it was askew. Searching for anything else afterwards will bring everything back to level.
If you want to see what flashing text looked like in the early days of the web, just enter Blink HTML into Google to activate it. This will cause the bold text on the page to flash slowly. Google uses animations to make the text blink because the blink HTML tag is no longer supported by modern browsers.
Searching Google in 1998 will make the page appear as it did in the year Google was founded with the old logo, search results page, and links at the bottom of the page. To return to the present Google, enter anything in the search box or click take me back to the present.
Google has a feature that allows you to flip a virtual coin on the screen, generating random 50 50 results. It will flip the coin within a few seconds of searching and you can flip it as many times as you want.
Roll a dice mimics the rolling of an actual dice. You can choose how many faces the dice has and combine it with other types of dice to generate a random result every time. This feature is useful if you want to play a game and don't have any physical dice.
Searching wheel spinner allows you to spin a wheel and it will select a number at random. You can choose between 2 and 20 numbers and control how fast the wheel will spin. There is also a virtual fidget spinner.
This feature simply generates a random number without any dice or spinning wheels. By default, it will pick between one and ten and you can customise the minimum and maximum number. But, the funny thing is that if you pick a number that's too large, it will just display an emoji with a dizzy face.
Type zerg rush in the search bar, click I'm feeling lucky, and you will see tiny o characters that try to consume your search results. If you click on the Google Os that attacks the screen during Zerg Rush, you can defeat them. A collection of red and yellow Os eventually create a large GG in the centre of the screen if you allow it to continue.
Searching recursion prompts Google to ask did you mean recursion. If you go back and click that word, it prompts the same question again and provides the same results, which is exactly what recursion means.
If you search fun facts, it will show you a random fact, which will be displayed on a fact card. Clicking on ask another question will reveal another random fact. If you feel like you want to learn something new, type in fun facts and you might be surprised.
Type in define anagram and Google will say did you mean nerd fame again. You can also search for anagram and it will say did you mean nag a ram, making an anagram out of your search term.
Type in colour picker and Google will display a random colour. You can enter the RGB or hex code of any colour and it will display the correct colour. This is useful for finding colour codes for your website.
Google has an internet speed test which can check your internet speed in less than 30 seconds without having to leave the search results page. At first, it will determine your download speed and then your upload speed. Once the test has finished, you will get a short report saying how fast your internet connection is and the latency.
Searching for comic sans, design fails, or bad UX will change the font of everything on the search results page to Comic Sans. If you search for anything else, the font will go back to normal.
If you search Google gravity, you'll see the Google homepage collapse to the bottom of the screen. To use Google Gravity, visit the Google homepage in a web browser, type Google Gravity in the search bar, then click on I'm Feeling Lucky to load the Google Gravity page.
If you go to this page, you will see a robot teapot, waiting for you to tip it over and pour it out. The 418 error code was an April Fools joke from 1998 and is not meant to be implemented or supported. But Google implemented it anyway.
If so, it is important that you tell me as soon as possible on this page.
