For more information on what Google AdSense is, see this article. This article was designed to help people get their site approved for Google AdSense.

1. Create High-Quality and Unique Content

This is the first tip and the most common reason why websites get rejected for Google AdSense. In order for your content to be high-quality and unique, it should meet the criteria below:

  • AdSense does not specify a minimum number of articles or words per article, but we advise you to ensure that each page contains at least 600 words. Ideally, 1000 words would be better. Before applying to Google AdSense, make sure to have at least 15 well-written articles that are at least 600 words, ideally 1000. Some people suggest that you should have at least 30 articles that are over 1000 words each before applying. The more, the better. Adding more articles is never going to decrease the chances of you getting approved, so more articles are better.
  • Focus more on quality, not quantity. Even though more content is better than less, Google AdSense focuses more on the quality rather than the quantity of your content, which means that even if you wrote over 100 articles, if they were low-quality and copied word-for-word from other websites, your site could still get rejected.
  • Do not add any blank pages that have little to no content on your website. Google often considers this to be low-value content. If you have any pages with little to no content, you should add some more content to them or remove them. A common reason for pages with little to no content is category pages with only a few categorised pages. If you have those types of category pages on your site, consider writing more pages to add to them or remove them.
  • Do not copy word-for-word from other websites.
  • Do not add copyrighted or scraped content to your website.
  • Make sure that there are no broken links on your website.
  • Make sure that your content does not contain any spelling or grammatical errors.
  • Make sure that there is a sufficient number of internal links on your pages.
  • Make sure that your content has some originality. To increase the chances of getting approved, make sure that your website has some unique content and information that is difficult to find elsewhere. Even if the content is not copied and pasted from other sources, it is less likely that your site will get approved if the same information can easily be found elsewhere. This is not to say that you should never add any information to your site that can be easily be found elsewhere to get approved for AdSense. Just make sure that your site contains at least some unique content that cannot easily be found elsewhere.

2. Make Sure That Your Website Has The Basic Pages

Before applying to Google AdSense, you should make sure that your website has the basic pages, such as the "about" page, privacy policy page, terms of use page, and a contact page. It is necessary for all websites to have these four important pages. One of the requirements in the Google AdSense terms is that your website has a legally compliant privacy policy. If you choose to use AdSense, you will need to update your privacy policy in order to meet Google's requirements.

3. Make Sure That Your Website Fully Complies With The AdSense Programme Policies

AdSense has programme policies that publishers must abide by if they choose to sign up for the service. Violations of these policies can lead to suspension or termination of their AdSense account and the team will review sites before they can start displaying ads on their sites. For more information about the AdSense Programme Policies, see this article.

Before applying to AdSense, make sure that your whole website complies with the AdSense Programme Policies. If any pages violate them, your site will quickly be rejected.

4. Provide Accurate Personal Information With Your Application

When you apply to Google AdSense, make sure to provide accurate personal information. Google needs this information so that you can receive payment and will review it to make sure it is correct upon completion. Providing inaccurate information can cause Google to think that your site is not legitimate.

5. Make Sure That Your Website Is At Least 6 Months Old

For countries like India, Pakistan, and China, Google has stated that the website needs to be 6 months old or more. Google does not specify a minimum website or domain age for other countries, but we recommend that you wait until your site is at least 6 months old before you apply to AdSense. The age of a website is a signal of how long it has been available on the World Wide Web and applying straight after you have launched your site is not a good idea. If your website has been around for at least six months, this indicates that you are keeping your website maintained in the long run, not just for a few days. To increase your chances of being approved, it is recommended that you wait until your site is at least 6 months old.

6. Apply With A High-Level Domain

When you apply for Google AdSense, always enter the high-level domain name (e.g. mysite.com) and avoid using subdomains, subdirectories, or page URLs (e.g. mysite.com/page.html). You should also use a trustworthy TLD, such as .com, .org, or .net instead of a rare one, such as .gq or .ml.

Remember that you cannot apply to Google AdSense using a site that has ever been used for AdSense before. You will need the previous owner's AdSense account transferred to you if you bought a domain name from someone else that previously owned it.

7. Make Sure That Your Website Has A Clear Navigation

Website navigation makes it easier for users to find what they are looking for without having to manually type the URL or search through the website. Before applying, make sure that your website has clear navigation. This can be a navigation bar, breadcrumb trail, or dropdown menu. A clear navigation can increase the chances of your website getting approved. It will also improve the usability and overall user experience of your website. Almost all websites have some form of navigation to allow users to explore and discover different features, pages, content, and areas of a website without difficulty.

8. Check That The Content Of Your Website Is Not On The Restricted List

There is a restricted content list for Google AdSense. If you run a website with restricted content, your site will quickly get rejected. Examples include content that promotes the following:

  • Violence
  • Terrorism
  • Recreational drugs
  • Untested pharmaceuticals
  • Explosives
  • Firearms

Google has more information about restricted content here.

9. Make Sure That Your Website Provides A Good Overall User Experience

In order to increase your chances of getting approved for Google AdSense, you should ensure that your website provides a good overall user experience. The user experience is the overall feeling that a user gets when using a website. Examples of things that you should optimise that all have an impact on user experience are:

  • Page speed - How quickly the pages of a website load in a visitor's web browser.
  • Mobile-friendliness - This is about whether a website performs well on mobile devices. Responsive web design is used to do this.
  • Ease-to-use - This is about whether a website is simple to use for the tasks that need to be performed with it.
  • Accessibility - This is about ensuring equal access to all users, regardless of disabilities or internet connection.
  • Usability - This is about how easy a website is to use and the ability for users to successfully use the services on the website.
  • Usefulness - This is about whether a website is useful to users in general. The quality of the content and length can have an impact on this.

10. Make Sure That Your Website Uses HTTPS Over SSL/TLS

Security is very important for websites, especially websites where users enter sensitive information, such as ecommerce websites. HTTPS over SSL/TLS is confirmed to be a minor Google ranking factor. Even though SSL/TLS is not required to get approved for AdSense, it might increase your chances of getting approved as ensuring that your visitor's data is secured is considered important by Google. Before you apply to AdSense, we recommend that you secure your site with SSL/TLS. Nearly all sites are secured, even sites where users do not enter any sensitive information as it increases the trust of visitors and browsers draw attention to sites that are unsecured by showing a 'not secure' warning in the address bar.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a minimum amount of traffic required to get approved for AdSense?

There is no minimum traffic requirement to apply for AdSense and get approved. Google has never stated in any of its articles that a minimum amount of website traffic is required to use AdSense. We urge you to be wary of any sources that say that you need a certain amount of visitors, website traffic, impressions, or views per month, week, or day to get approved. AdSense focuses more on the quality of content and user experience.

But, without a decent amount of website traffic, you will have a hard time earning money from your ads as there wouldn't be enough visitors to view and click through them.

Do I need to have a specific Alexa rank?

No. Your Alexa rank is not something that you need to worry about when getting approved for AdSense. It is not something that AdSense considers or requires.

Is the AdSense approval process automatic or manual?

The AdSense approval process is both automatic and manual. At first, your application is automatically reviewed by the AdSense system to check to see whether your website meets the basic eligibility criteria for the service. This includes high-quality content and not promoting any illegal or harmful content. If it passes the automatic review, it will then be manually reviewed by AdSense specialists, which will check to see whether the website meets the AdSense programme policies and guidelines. If the application is approved, you can then start displaying ads.

Can I use other methods of monetising my site as well as AdSense?

You can do that. For example, if you have joined an affiliate network and are promoting products, you can also place affiliate links on your website.

How many times can I resubmit my site for Google AdSense if it didn't get approved?

There is no maximum number of times you can resubmit your site for Google AdSense if it didn't get approved. However, AdSense will temporarily stop you from resubmitting your site if it constantly gets rejected. Before you resubmit your site, make sure that you fix the issues or else your site might get rejected again.

If I don't get approved, can I directly contact the AdSense team and ask why?

Unfortunately, it is not possible to directly contact the AdSense team and ask why your application was not approved other than using the official AdSense forums.

Do I have to use WordPress?

No. AdSense does not, and has never required sites to use WordPress to get approved. But, it is a very popular CMS because it makes it easier for people to create, update, and maintain content on their websites.
