Learn more about what 10x content is in this article.

10x content describes content that is 10 times better than the highest ranking result that can be found in the search results page for specific keywords. The aim of 10x content is to stand out from competitors. 10x content must be much better than all the content ranking for the same keyword and it can be difficult for website owners to produce, but not impossible. The term '10 x content' was invented by Rand Fiskin of Moz in 2015 in one of his "Whiteboard Friday" episodes.

10x content is not limited to textual content. It can also refer to video content that is 10 times better than content that is ranking the highest for a specific keyword.

What Makes 10x Content?

'Better' refers to the value of the content, which can mean lots of different things. In general, 10x content fills in gaps, such as outdated statistics, broken links, and lower readability, for content that already exists on the World Wide Web. The value of the content is determined by the following things below:

  • Overall user experience
  • Unique content that is not duplicate or plagiarised
  • High quality, trustworthy, useful, and interesting writing
  • Page speed
  • Readability and clarity
  • Whether it follows SEO practices
  • The emotional response that it creates
  • Social media shares and likes
  • Mobile friendliness
  • Whether it answers a question or solves a problem by providing understandable and accurate information or resources.

10x content focuses on quality, not quantity, which is the reason why content length is not on the list above. But, 10x content must be long enough to cover the topic in detail and answer a question or solve a problem.
