Learn about what a domain registrant is in this article.

A domain registrant is a user or company that owns and conducted the registration of a certain domain name. Domain registrants hold the rights to the domain name and have the ability to manage nameservers, set DNS records, and make changes to other settings through their domain registrar. All changes that are made to the domain name by the registrant are communicated to the registry in order for them to be updated in the database of the registry.

For example, the registrant of the domain 'microsoft.com' is Microsoft, one of the most common and well-known technology companies. The domain registrant is the user or company that pays for the domain name, provides the domain registrar with their personal information that is stored in the WHOIS database, and has a responsibility to answer all questions concerning the domain name.

Do not confuse a domain registrant with a domain registrar or a domain registry. A domain registrar is a company that allows users to register domain names and a domain registry is a company that maintains a database of all domain names and the associated registrant information.
